The Hota-Tegai Scallop Samurai Katana Sword is a dojo grade katana meant for use for the practitioner. It comes with a certificate of authenticity, and is guaranteed to cut tatami. It is tightly wrapped with hishigami and is differentially hardened to produce a hard edge with a ductile body. The sword has an agile feel and comes very sharp.

Blade: The blade has been constructed of forge folded 1070 steel. The hamon is notare midare and the blade has been polished to a mirror polish using japanese water stones. The folding pattern is clearly visible as is the hamon line.

Saya: The saya has a black gloss finish with a buffalo horn koiguchi, kurikata, and kojiri. It has a thick red and black chemical fiber sageo tied over a wooden kurikata with brass shitodome.

Koshirae: The habaki is made of brass with the crossed feathers family crest engraved on both sides with brass seppa and a sukashi cutout tsuba. The fuchi and kashira feature a textured ishime pattern. The red cotton ito is wrapped tightly over lacquered black samegawa with hishigami and the menuki are brass triple semi-circles that are tied over the ito.
